The Importance of Both Practicing and Preaching Righteousness

Hadith of the Day is a daily feature highlighting timeless sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and the Ahlul-Bayt (pbut), offering insights into faith, ethics, and spirituality for contemporary life.

Hawzah News Agency- Shaikh al-Saduq narrated from his father who narrated from Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Attar, from Sahl ibn Ziyad, who said: Amr ibn Uthman narrated to me from Abd Allah ibn al-Mughirah, from Talhah al-Shami, from Imam Baqir (pbuh) regarding the word of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, “So when they forgot that by which they had been reminded,” that he said:

كَانُوا ثَلَاثَةَ أَصْنَافٍ: صِنْفٌ ائْتَمَرُوا وَأَمَرُوا فَنَجَوْا، وَصِنْفٌ ائْتَمَرُوا وَلَمْ يَأْمُرُوا فَمُسِخُوا ذَرّاً، وَصِنْفٌ لَمْ يَأْتَمِرُوا وَلَمْ يَأْمُرُوا فَهَلَكُوا.

They were of three categories:

1. One group obeyed [the commands themselves] and enjoined [good upon others], so they were saved;

2. Another group obeyed but did not enjoin [others], so they were transformed into ants;

3. And a third group neither obeyed nor enjoined [others], so they perished.[1]

[1]Note: By reflecting on the narration and its translation, it becomes clear that the Imam (peace be upon him) in explaining the blessed verse describes three groups of people: the first group has been saved, and the other two groups have been punished as a result of receiving divine reminders.
